The search for a new hosting provider can be a tedious one and can sometimes leave you with more questions than when you started!
Typically hosting providers will highlight their standard features such as pricing, traffic limitations, storage, and included installs right on their website.
But what about everything behind the scenes that they are doing to improve the performance, security, and ongoing optimization of your site?
What exactly they’re doing to elevate our hands-on management to a new industry standard?
What they’re doing to proactively catch issues before they impact you or your visitors?
Their goal as your soon-to-be hosting provider is to cement ourselves as your technical partner, which starts by being transparent and by doing our best to provide a completely stress-free onboarding experience.
To help make your transition easier, they have compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions.
What Is The Migration Process Like? How Long Does It Take?
At BigScoots, they take care of the entire migration process for you from start to finish.
If you have selected their Fully Managed WordPress service, you will receive a welcome email that will provide access to their WordPress Optimized Portal (WPO).
Within the WPO portal, you’ll be able to submit your migration request very easily and securely.
Once they receive your migration request, their expert team will begin your migration as soon as possible.
It will be an entirely seamless process, without a moment of downtime.
Everything will be completely optimized during the migration, as well as a full security audit ran.
Our managed WordPress migrations are completed in the order they are received, on average within 5 hours.
If you are down or experiencing an issue with your current host, please reach out to them so they can expedite your move.
They will always keep you updated along the way and of course, if you have any questions then they are always available to help!
If you instead opted for a Shared Hosting service, once signed up you will simply submit a support ticket or email [email protected] with your previous host’s login details.
You can expect your shared migration to be completed within 24 hours.
Can I Expect To See An Improvement In Site Speed?
Having moved tens of thousands of clients from other hosts over the years, they know how things are done elsewhere and they know what results to expect for our clients.
As a small, agile, and efficient expert team, they can dedicate a serious amount of one-on-one time to each client that walks through our doors.
This allows for the time necessary to optimize our client’s sites properly and proactively.
If you haven’t already, you might be interested to check out our comparison page, here.
They’re up to a little over 1000 comparisons now that they’ve done during migrations from different providers, some well known such as WPEngine, Kinsta, Liquidweb, Pagely, Flywheel among many others.
You might be surprised to see just how much faster a site can be if its optimized with a serious amount of hands-on time and attention.
Why Is BigScoots Better Than Other Premium Managed WordPress Hosts?
We have a relentless drive to deliver the best service and management in the industry. This is the reason, our clients continue to choose us over our competitors year after year.
As a team who can dedicate the time each one of our clients requires means that we’re the team who can deliver faster, more reliable, and superior services every single time.
We have demonstrated over the decade that we’ve been in business that we will never settle for anything less and that is exactly what you can expect from us.
What Is The Difference Between Shared Hosting And Fully Managed WordPress Hosting?
Their Fully Managed WordPress Services are built very specifically with WP in mind from the ground up which means they deliver seriously improved load times and drastically elevated management as a result when compared against any provider they’ve ever tested against.
Each WP plan is built on its own dedicated virtual environment which allows us to completely optimize your individual WP environment with just your site in mind.
While the dedicated environment is important for leveraging things like nginx and redis which help optimize and speed up your site, more importantly, and what really sets this service apart from our competitors, is their hands-on management.
They proactively dig deep into issues other providers tend not to touch such as stuck PHP processes, database inefficiencies, plugin conflicts, ongoing optimizations, security hardening, and much more.
With ~30 proactive monitors in place, we actively seek out and work to prevent issues before they impact you or your visitors.
Shared Hosting on the other hand is exactly that. You are sharing your resources with others on the server which is a fantastic way to reduce your overall cost but will, unfortunately, be unable to achieve the same level of performance or hands-on management.

What Will Happen To My Domain Name If It Is Registered With A Different Provider?
You are welcome to keep your domains with their current domain registrar, or alternatively, you can transfer them over to BigScoots.
There is a small yearly registration fee to do so of $10.95, which will automatically renew your registration for an additional 12 months at the time of transfer.
Where you choose to have your domains registered has zero effect on the performance of your site.
Many clients choose to transfer their domains to BigScoots purely for the ease of keeping all their billing nice and organized in one place, but it is not necessary to do so.
Please note: If you would like to transfer your domain, please wait ~48 hours after your migration have completed before requesting it as performing a website and domain transfer at the same time can cause conflicts.
Can I Migrate My Website From Wix/Squarespace/Blogger/Weebly Over To WordPress? Will BigScoots Help Me?
There is no added cost for it, and it would be available on any of our Fully Managed WordPress services.
Your migration request will be submitted as it usually would from within your WordPress Optimized Portal.
Once they have your login details, they will set you up on a staging domain, which is a private domain not visible to the public internet and password-protected to prevent search engine indexing which will not impact your live site in any way.
Then will then import all your content to the best of WP and your selected theme’s capability and install your new theme of choice.
You will then have your fresh WordPress install; your new theme ready to go as well as your current content on a private staging domain that you can tinker with until you’re happy.
Once satisfied, we will push your staging site live.
In many cases it is most efficient to manually migrate your content into your new WP theme we have set up for you on your staging site.
Please note: It is critically important to remember that you are undergoing a significant backend overhaul. While they’ve had some amazing successes of people moving from site building services to their managed WordPress services all done entirely by BigScoots, results absolutely do vary and we cannot guarantee that they will be able to handle the entire pixel-perfect transition for you – as every single site, theme, plugins, content, etc. are different. They always say to expect to hire a developer, of which they would be incredibly happy to recommend some they’ve worked within the past to you.
If you are interested in reading more about this process, you can check out our detailed explanation, here.
This migration is not currently available with their Shared Hosting services.

Will I Get a Free SSL Certificate?
Google has taken action and announced that by October 2018, any website without an SSL will be viewed as unsafe.
Having an SSL will therefore become a hugely important search engine ranking factor.
As a lot of you may have already noticed, they are now offering free SSL certificates thanks to a certificate authority known as LetsEncrypt.
These certificates provide you with the same level of encryption as all other certificates out there.
They mention this because the very first question that comes about is, “Well, its free so what is the catch?”.
Answer.. There is no catch, to make the internet a safer place a group of people, more specifically the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) has taken on the responsibility of providing us with a free and automated way of obtaining these certificates.
This is done per cPanel account, so ALL domains/subdomains within the account will then be given a certificate. These certificates last 90 days but are renewed automatically every 60 days providing you with a free, never expiring certificate for the life of your stay here with us.
Leading the charge and backed by large tech companies such as Google, Facebook, Mozilla and Cisco, is Let’s Encrypt, A Certificate Authority that issues free SSLs.
Although their certificates have a shorter life span of only 90 days, the automated renewal process has been fine-tuned to the point of being able to deliver incredibly secure and reliable SSLs through Let’s Encrypt.
Exceptions exist for EV SSLs or WildCard SSLs which still carry a cost, due to third party verification needing to be carried out before issuing.
But for about all websites out there, Let’s Encrypt is exceptionally well suited to be the SSL of choice.
At BigScoots they’ve become a Let’s Encrypt partner and believe in everything they are working towards.
They support a more secure internet for everyone, and best of all, it’s free!
Contact them any time for help getting your domain setup on an SSL (HTTPS) today!
It is always free, and we’re always ready and waiting!
The GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU and EEA.
The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.
GDPR is superseding the EU Data Protection Directive from 1995, the regulation contains provisions and requirements pertaining to the processing of personally identifiable information of individuals inside the EU, and applies to all enterprises, regardless of location, which is doing business with the EEA.
Business processes that handle personal data must be secured and use the highest-possible privacy settings by default so that the data is not available publicly without explicit consent and cannot be used to identify a subject without additional information stored separately.
No personal data may be processed unless it is done under a lawful basis specified by the regulation, or if the data controller or processor has received explicit, opt-in consent from the data subject.
The data subject has the right to revoke this permission at any time.
At BigScoots, they’ve seen an increasing number of clients contact us with questions on GDPR. Rightfully so, many are confused about their own requirements as well as how BigScoots fits in.

At their core, BigScoots has always believed in treating our client’s data in an ethical way we’d want our own data to be treated!
As such, they’ve never resold information, always worked towards an extremely elevated level of security when dealing with sensitive data and while they’ve never had a breach of any sort, had protocols in place to properly notify and resolve issues in the event of such a disaster.
BigScoots does not have any formal corporate ties to the EU or EEA, however, we are seen as a data processor in the eyes of GDPR compliance for many of our EU clients.
For this reason, they are working towards making our client’s lives easier by complying with GDPR stipulations.
Through the eyes of GDPR, we are a data processor for our EU clients, therefore they will be constantly working towards addressing EU data protection requirements applicable to data processors. These include:
Data processing: This refers to the requirements as laid out in article 28 of the regulation where you as the data controller, have selected BigScoots as your data processor.
You are using a third-party, in this case, BigScoots to process at least some of the personal data you are collecting from your own clients (visitors).
Because of this requirement, we have reassessed our current privacy and data protection policies and decided to take the additional step of registering with Privacy Shield.
A bit more on Privacy Shield:
- Privacy Shield will serve as a data transfer mechanism under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- The Privacy Shield was also designed with an eye to the GDPR, addressing both substantive and procedural elements.
- The Privacy Shield includes an annual review, which was designed to address the GDPR’s requirement for a mechanism for a periodic review, at least once every four years, of relevant developments.
- Privacy Shield is a mechanism that enables participating companies to meet the EU requirements for transferring personal data to third countries, discussed in Chapter V of the GDPR.
- BigScoots has elected the EU data protection authorities (DPAs) to serve as our independent recourse mechanism for data transferred from the EU.
Data sharing: The data customer’s store with BigScoots has always been and will remain 100% theirs, except for services otherwise agreed to such as domain registrations where we are required to pass along information to ICANN as well as to other third parties associated with SSL or CDN services.
Third-party audits and certifications: BigScoots operates under a SOC2 and SSAE16 audited data center demonstrating our commitment to information security best practices. This provides independent and expert verification that information security on our network is managed in line with international best practices and business objectives.
BigScoots supports what the GDPR stands for and this is our formal commitment to continue to treat our clients and their client’s data with the utmost respect.
As we continue to work diligently to ensure that both your migration process and overall experience with BigScoots is as stress-free as possible, we will continue to update our FAQ’s.
